Daniel Moore's first competitive game as Hebburn Town boss ended in defeat on the road.

Mark Davison struck twice alongside a Kieran Charlton goal, giving Sunderland RCA an Emirates FA Cup upset.

The hosts started brighter as left-back Charlton whipped in a corner, which Callum Patton powerfully hooked over from the edge.

Hebburn then had two penalty shouts at the other end as Liam Henderson and Olly Martin went down, but both were waved away.

Davison gave RCA an early lead on eight minutes, coolly meeting Charlton’s cross on the volley at the front stick.

The home side could’ve had another 10 minutes later as Charlton played Andrew Johnson through, but the striker went wide after jinking past Tom Devitt.

Moments later, Johnson again slashed off target following some trickery outside the box.

Despite sitting one league below, RCA dominated the chances and should’ve had their second after the half hour.

The duo of Davison and Johnson proved too hot to handle, and the latter was somehow denied by the fingertips of Shaun Newbrook at point-blank range.

Frontman Johnson finished the half by latching onto a through ball from the left, but Newbrook and midfielder Wayne Phillips threw themselves in front of the shot to rescue Hebburn.

The Hornets were forced to wait until 52 minutes for a shot on target, when Martin showed a glimpse of quality on the edge and hooked towards the bottom corner but Keaton Mars clawed away.

Just a few minutes later though, Newbrook’s ball fell into Charlton's path who raced from the halfway line, sprinted down the wing and slotted into the far corner to make it 2-0.

The game then slowed as the hosts sat back, allowing Hebburn to come forward and they eventually capitalised.

Martin’s in swinging corner bounced across the face of goal, and while Devitt’s initial stab was blocked, Purewal blasted into the net to pull one back.

Moore’s side searched for the equaliser as left-back Oliver Walters forced a low save from 20 yards, with the rebound falling just behind Purewal.

Hebburn were vulnerable on the counter however, and RCA wrapped the game up on 82 minutes as Davison bulleted Charlton’s corner past Newbrook at the back post.

There were more chances as the clock ticked down, including one from Hebburn player-manager Moore.

Liam Murray worked past his man and dinked a ball in, but Marrs scraped Moore’s header away at the front stick.

RCA mainly kept the ball in the corner, but substitute Thibaut Charmey surprised the Hornets’ defence by dribbling past two men before fizzing an effort wide.
