Jack Evans’ hat-trick and Sam Peat’s brace sent Spennymoor Town into the first round qualifying of the FA Youth Cup, despite strikes from Lewis Rutherford and Josh Pollard.
A tight affair began in The Moors’ favour, and they broke the deadlock with the first real chance of the game.
Number nine, Evans, rounded ‘keeper Dylan Arkley and prodded into the net, despite an attempt to block late on the line.
Five minutes later, the visitors doubled the advantage, courtesy of Peat.
The winger went past Arkley and, after gently retreating, rolled the ball into the bottom left corner.
The Hornets nearly pulled one back moments later as Dillon Cummins was played through, but his first-time stab one-on-one fell wide of the post.
Stephen Hymers’ side did hit the back of the net on 34 minutes, as Rutherford powerfully blasted a header past Matthew Pattison.
Spennymoor skipper, Harry Peterson, was shown his marching orders midway through the first 45 after a nasty challenge on Matty Robinson.
Kieron Dillon almost got on the scoresheet on the 40 mark, but the Hebburn winger's close-range effort went narrowly wide of the near post.
Matty Robinson’s 30-yard curling effort hit the crossbar on 45 minutes, before Rutherford tapped the rebound home but was ruled offside.
The away side regained the two-goal cushion three minutes into the second period, as Peat fired past Arkley for his second of the night.
Rutherford slid the ball past the ‘keeper from a deep free-kick on 56 minutes, but the flag agin denied the frontman.
Evans earned his second on the 57 mark, as a defensive error gave the attacker an empty net to shoot into.
On 68 minutes, Peat was sent through one-on-one, but the Spennymoor playmaker couldn’t get a hat-trick as his effort went wide.
A cross from the right side was fumbled past Pattison by Rutherford to rescue hope for the hosts with 70 on the clock.
Pollard’s trickery sent Alex Rythoe to the ground, before the substitute drove an effort under Pattison from the edge.
Rutherford tackled the Spennymoor shot-stopper with five to go before laying off James Robinson, but a close block stopped Hebburn from getting level.
Spennymoor were reduced to nine as James Carr hacked down last-man Rutherford, but Hebburn’s free-kick cleared the visitors’ bar.
Matty Robinson committed a foul in the area at the death, allowing Evans to notch his third from the spot to finish proceedings at 5-3.
