Hebburn Town secured Isuzu FA Trophy progression in midweek after a late win in Manchester.

The Hornets responded to a poor first half by finding two goals after the break, earning a spot in the second round qualifying.

Daniel Moore handed Arron Thompson a first Hebburn start, while Sean Reid lined up in attack alongside Amar Purewal.

Hebburn started slow and the hosts broke the deadlock on 12 minutes, as Ryan Morton hooked a low shot into the bottom corner.

Reid hit the side netting for The Hornets on 18 minutes, after he latched onto Groves’ set-piece and poked wide.

Liam Murray lost out to Matty Barlow on the 26 mark, however the Trafford number seven swerved a shot over from distance.

With five to go in the first period, Rob Worrall ran down the right and drove a ball across the face of goal but Trafford couldn’t turn the chance home.

In the dying seconds before half-time, Murray received possession 30-yards out, skilled past two men and curled a strike wide of the mark.

The visitors started the second half with intent, and got back on level terms through Robbie Spence on 52 minutes.

Olly Martin whipped a cross in which was headed to the edge, allowing Spence to stroke a volley into the top right corner.

Before the hour, Martin had a golden opportunity himself as he stood free inside the box but he couldn’t keep his shot down.

At the other end, Harry Norris got in front of Shaun Newbrook and met Worrall’s cross but his header skimmed over.

Purewal then beat the offside trap for Hebburn and poked past goalkeeper Matt Cooper, but Trafford recovered to clear their lines.

In the following moments, Barlow jinked inside and stung an effort low into Newbrook’s gloves from range.

Hebburn should’ve went ahead with 69 on the clock as Reid acrobatically struck at point-blank range, however Cooper outstandingly tipped over the crossbar.

Ollie Ford went down for Trafford on 74 minutes after a standing challenge by Tom Devitt, with the referee waving away strong penalty appeals from the home dugout.

The game could’ve gone straight to penalties, but The Hornets notched a late winner four minutes from time.

Oliver Walters’ corner was recycled and Jack Donaghy unleashed an effort, which was deflected to Devitt in an excellent position to stab home.

Moore’s outfit were alert in the other box as Barlow’s driven strike was clawed onto the post by Newbrook, preventing an instant equaliser.

The victory gives Hebburn a home tie against Stockton Town on Friday, September 23 after The Anchors edged Witton Albion.
