We catch up with Women’s First Team manager ahead of Sunday’s opener against Hartlepool U23's

This weekend will provide another little piece of history for our Women’s first team as they play their very first competitive league game so we took the time to catch up with Women’s First Team Manager Steve Gibson for his thoughts.

How do you think preseason has gone?
“Preseason has gone really well as we gave ourselves targets of what we needed to achieve, and we’ve hit all of them which is very pleasing. We picked up some really good wins and put the performances in them games to. Our message to the lasses was to be more consistent in games as that has been a downfall in previous seasons under our old club, they have took that on board and the improvement is there for everyone to see.

What are your thoughts on Sundays game?
It’s felt like a really long preseason if I’m honest but with the first league coming Sunday we just can’t wait to get stuck into it now and see what happens. This game is going be huge test for us straight away as Hartlepool have to be favourites to win the league and with us coming up a division it’s always going be tough however we will go out there and perform the best we can.

Any other words for the supporters before the game?
It should be a great occasion for the team and the club as we enter the league for the first time ever as Hebburn Town Women. Games are going to come quick and fast with the FA Cup and County Cup coming up after Sunday. As always’s your support would be hugely appreciated. HAWAY THE LASSES!!!

It would be great to see people get behind the team and support them in what promises to be a great game.
