PREVIEW | Bishop Auckland (A)

PREVIEW | Bishop Auckland (A)

Josh Youll22 Jul 2022 - 09:00

Hebburn Town play our final away friendly on Saturday at Bishop Auckland (3pm KO).

THE LOWDOWN

Daniel Moore's side look to extend our unbeaten streak in pre-season to six, after four victories and a draw to Basford United.

The Hornets have won against two full-time outfits in Sunderland U23s and Gateshead, with Amar Purewal's goal defeating the latter on Tuesday night.

Hebburn are still scheduled to play South Shields on home turf on July 26 after Saturday's trip to Heritage Park.

Bishop Auckland have tasted defeats to Middlesbrough, Whitby Town and Shildon so far in pre-season, while also playing out a stalemate at Stockton Town.

Chris Hardy has made a number of new additions to the Bishop squad, including former Marske United midfielder Craig Gott.

PRE-MATCH THOUGHTS

"We're gearing up towards the season now," commented first-manager Moore.

"Some younger lads that haven't started games will start because we want to see them against Northern League opposition.

"That'll be their chance to put their name in the window to start on August 6 because that's what it's all about - how we perform on that day and going forward."

LAST MEETING

Hebburn welcomed Bishop Auckland to South Tyneside on October 6, 2020 and claimed an enthralling 4-2 win in league action.

Tom Potter unleashed a strike from distance into the top corner within three minutes, before Lee Mason doubled the lead in the second half.

Luke Hogan pulled one back for the visitors, but Mason restored Hebburn's two-goal cushion after firing home a rebound.

Bishop's Kyle Morris made it 3-2, however Graeme Armstrong converted a penalty in injury time to put the game to bed.

FAMILIAR FACES

Hebburn forward Purewal spent time at Bishop Auckland earlier in his career before moving to Durham City and Darlington.

Meanwhile, Bishop playmaker James Fairley enjoyed a short stint with The Hornets in 2018/19, making 18 appearances in yellow and black.
