One Town, One Club and a fantastic community spirit

One Town, One Club and a fantastic community spirit

Stephen Rutherford27 Apr 2020 - 16:00

Football will return at some point but for now let’s get through this, we can do it, we are in this together.

Football like many other events in the world has quite rightly taking a side step to allow us to concentrate on the more important issues to help get us through this difficult period.

The full impact of this world wide pandemic is still open ended as we forge ahead into the future there are still many unknowns and no doubt more hurdles as a community we will need to get over, but we know together as a football club and a close community we certainly can do it as we are “in this together”.

At Hebburn Town FC we are more than just a football club, we are a pillar within the community. During current lockdown conditions we are proud to say we’ve supported our local food banks, our elderly residents, recently the Rainbow Bows decorations, we’ve even kept our young members within the junior club entertained through social media channels with sports challenges, fun skills activities and console tournaments as we look to keep morale high and minimise the boredom.

We urge our members, supporters, friends and our wider community to be resolute and stick with the conditions the government has imposed for a while longer, let’s do this together and come out stronger through the other side, demonstrate a true local Hebburn community spirit, once we do we’ll certainly put on a spectacular event at the sports club for us all to celebrate.

Regarding an update on football, you may have heard that the 2019/2020 season has been declared null and void, and as a club and like many other clubs we were disappointed that our efforts across the club last season were expunged, however we must stress importantly we understand any decision would have been difficult for the governing body and now it has been made we have to move on and plan accordingly.

This now means once it’s safe for players, officials and supporters and all football to return again our first team will be playing in Northern League Division One for the 2020/2021 season.

We are yet to receive an update on our FA Vase Semi-Final two legged fixtures, the positive information shared from the FA is they are “determined to do all they can to fulfil the national cup competition fixtures when they feel it’s safe to do so”, we continue to keep our fingers crossed we’ll get our chance to give the club every opportunity to break more records and fulfil a dream of reaching Wembley and will share any news as soon as we hear.

Although we are unsure of when the 2020/2021 season will commence we’ll be announcing news about Early Bird Season Tickets and agreed Pre-Season Friendlies with clubs who have committed with us (dates TBC) over the coming days that we hope will encourage and excite both new supporters as well as our current loyal group of hornet supporters, so watch this space.

One thing for certain is as the town's football club we are determined to pick up where we finished last season and continuing the momentum in driving the football club and our town, our community forward, bringing back some of that good old “Hebburn feel good factor”.

We’ll need your support more than ever though, support from the people of our community to come and watch us, local businesses continuing to get behind the club financially where they can as without you we are nothing, we are in this together - one club, one community.
