After a long journey to Lancaster, the Hornets managed to hold on for a point.
A brace from Amar Purewal was not enough at the Giant Axe, as a first half own goal from Michael Turner, and a late goal from Dylan Moonan in the 88th minute left the game all square.
The Hornets were looking to get back to winning ways after their latest against Morpeth Town FC.
Likewise, the Dolly Blues were eager to get back on a winning streak after rounds of defeats.
An early goal from Purewal in the 10th minute, rewarded the travelling Hornet supporters with a lively start to the match. Robbie Spence made an impact on his return to the team as he sprayed a ball out wide to Joe Posthill, before finding Purewal who heads home to put the Hornets ahead.
Lancaster showed signs of equalising in the 14th minute as Marcus Cusani got a shot away, but he could only drag it just wide of Kieran Hunter’s goal.
The home side were forced into a double change in the 23rd minute, as Dom Lawson and Lewis Coulton being introduced in place of Lewis Mansell and Dylan Thompson.
Cusani is fouled by Liam Noble just minutes later, with Brayden Shaw taking the resulting free-kick. However, his shot went inches past Hunter’s goal.
Lancaster pulled level in the 29th minute. A free-kick from Coulton saw a scramble in the Hornets box, and the final touch came from Michael Turner as he put the ball in his own net, allowing the home side too equalise.
Tensions were starting to get high, and Olly Martin received a yellow card for dissent moments later.
However, it wasn’t long before the Hornets retook the lead. Purewal flicked the ball over the onrushing Aidan Dowling, before slotting the ball home in the 33rd minute.
There were calls for offside from Lancaster players and fans alike after Purewal’s second of the day, but the ref ruled in our favour and the goal stood.
Purewal attempted to make it a hat-trick in the 35th minute, but he mistimed his header after a cross from Martin, as the referee blew for offside.
Martin tried his luck from outside the box soon after, but he bent his shot over Dowling’s cross bar.
Spence was eager to get a goal on his first game back after being out on loan, but in the 40th minute his efforts were cleared by a Dolly Blue defender.
Lancaster bounced back as Charlie Bailey tried his luck on the edge of the Hornet’s box in the 43rd minute, but his shot was miles off and went straight into Row Z.
The referee then blew for half-time soon after, that saw the Hornets head into the break ahead.
As the second half kicked-off, Hebburn were pushing for that third goal that would have surely sealed the game, as Dan Savage attempted to make it 1-3, but Dowling saved the his shot with his feet, before the referee blew for offside.
The 55th minute saw Noble deliver a free kick into the Lancaster half and Spence looked to have won the ball, but he seemed to be pulled down as the referee waved away the appeals.
On the hour, Savage received a yellow card for a foul.
A major chance for the Hornets appeared in the 64th minute - Paul Van-Zandvliet cut the ball back across to Savage in the Dolly Blues box, but the effort fell flat as it hit off a Lancaster defender.
Posthill received a yellow card in the 65th minute.
Cusani tested Hunter with a fierce shot inside the box just minutes later, but Hunter ensured that he was down low to keep the effort out.
The first change for the Hornets came on 70 minutes, as Savage was replaced by Liam Murray.
A third change for the Dollies saw Nathan Caine makes his way to the pitch to replace Cusani.
Hunter was in inspired form as he kept a shot from going in the top of his net with his fingertips in the 82nd minute.
The second change for the Hornets saw Aidan Heywood, replace Martin in the 84th minute.
Ultimately, the game was decided in the 88th minute, when Lancaster found the equaliser they had been searching for. Shaw crossed the ball towards Moonan at the back post, as he headed the ball into the bottom corner as the home side then pushed for a winner.
However, Murray won a free kick in the 94th minute, after he was fouled by Coulton. Noble crossed the ball, but nobody got on the end of it and the Dolly Blues cleared their lines.
Noble then received a yellow card moments later for a foul.
However, the referee blew for full-time shortly after, which saw the point shared between the two sides.
We’re back in action next Saturday, as we welcome top of the league Macclesfield FC to the Hebburn Sports Ground, with a 3pm kick-off.
