Hebburn Town 0-1 Leek Town By Marcella Lamb

The match began with Joe Walton putting in a cross towards Joao Gomes in the third minute, but it was headed away by Ollie Heywood for Leek.
In the sixth minute, Hayden Campbell put in a cross from the left, but Jack Donaghy cut it out and put the ball behind for a corner. Scully crossed the ball, but it was headed away by Donaghy.
The 8th minute saw a major chance for The Hornets. Gomes played Callum West the ball down the left side of the goal, yet his effort sailed over the crossbar.
Hebburn were denied a stonewall penalty in the 13th minute after Amar Purewal was clearly pushed in the Leek box by Nathan Okome, but the referee waved away the appeals.
On 17 minutes, Walton put a long throw-in down the line to West who drew a foul. Liam Noble crossed the ball into the box, but Julius Ndene headed the ball away towards Daniel Savage, who forced a corner.
Noble crossed the ball into the box and Purewal wins the ball before being brought down in the box, but yet again, the referee waved away the appeals.
A minute later, Purewal got himself into the box in a great position, but his shot went just over the crossbar.
In the 25th minute, Noble stood up to take a corner. Noble crossed the ball, and it was headed back across the goal by Donaghy, but Savage’s shot was straight at Dino Visser.
On 32 minutes, Liam Edwards of Leek received a yellow card for fouling Purewal as he attempted to break through The Blues’ defence. The referee gave a free-kick, but Noble’s cross amounted to nothing.
Two minutes later, the Hornets thought they had made the breakthrough. Robbie Spence was fouled on halfway, with Noble stepping up to take the free-kick, but Donaghy’s header from close range was well saved by Visser, and he quickly reacted to also keep out Walton’s shot.
Play got tense within the final five minutes of the first half, as both sides played with trepidation. A major chance for the lads was seen in the 40th minute. West ran at the Leek defence, before laying the ball back to Noble, whose cross just evaded Purewal at the back post.
In the 46th minute, a major chance fell to the Hornets. Noble played an incisive pass towards Purewal, but his shot was well saved by Visser. West then looked to go round him and slot home, but yet again, Visser was in inspired form as he made another crucial block.
The referee soon blew for half-time, as the two sides went into the break level.
In the 51st minute, with their first real shot on target, Leek took the lead. A cross from the right was turned in by Scully at the near post to put the away side ahead.
In the 57th minute, Kieran Hunter clashed with Tyreece Onyeka and appeared to suffer a injury to his foot, but after receiving treatment, he was alright to carry on.
In the 62nd minute, Daniel Moore opted to make his first substitutions of the game as Arron Thompson and Liam Murray replaced Savage and West.
Leek nearly had a second in the 69th minute after a defensive mixup in the Hornets back line, but the referee awarded a free-kick after Hunter was caught.
The 73rd minute saw Spence deliver a pinpoint cross into the Leek box towards Purewal, but his header went inches past the far post.
In the 78th minute, Moore opted for his third change as Hunter was taken off as a precaution, with Callum Dobson coming on to replace him.
With the clock ticking down, Spence won a free-kick 30-yards from goal on 85 minutes after being fouled when trying to win a header. Noble crossed the ball, but it was headed away by Ndene.
The referee then showed a yellow card to Visser for time wasting when taking a goal kick in the 87th minute.
In the 90th minute, the referee indicated that there would be a minimum of six minutes additional time.
There was a chance for a late equaliser in the 96th minute as Purewal tried to round Visser, but Billy Reeves blocked his attempt, and the referee blew for full-time.
It was a disappointing afternoon for the Hornets as they slipped down to 10th place as a result, with the visitors moving up to 15th place, and moving themselves four points clear of the relegation zone.
