Hebburn Town 1-1 Ashton United

A tightly contested match saw Darius Osei give Ashton United the lead before the half-time, but a second half goal by Liam Murray saw the points shared as neither team could find a winning goal.

The first chance of the game went to the Hornets in the 7th minute, when Olly Martin received a well-placed pass from Daniel Savage, but his shot went just wide, and over the crossbar.

Midway through the first half, Jack Donaghy played a clever through ball to Joe Posthill, who capitalised on the opportunity with a driving run into the opposition box, although his effort on goal narrowly missed, flying just inches over the crossbar.

The Robins ramped up their attacking play in the latter stages of the first half and found their breakthrough in the 39th minute.

A well-delivered free kick found striker Osei in the box, who dinked the ball over Callum Dobson, and giving Ashton the lead.

Six minutes later, the referee blew for half-time and the Hornets knew they had work to do to get anything from the game.

In a bid to bolster their attacking options, Daniel Moore opted to make a double change as Murray and Callum West came on to replace Amar Purewal and Savage in the 56th minute.

The changes paid off just four minutes later, as substitute Murray took full advantage of a poor defensive clearance by an Ashton defender to fire a rocket of a shot into the top corner, and past Connor Eastham to get us back on level terms.

In the 63rd minute, a decisive pass from West found Martin, who struck a powerful shot on target, only to see it miss the top half of the goal by mere centimetres.

Ashton, having been on the defensive for most of the second half, made a 72nd-minute substitution, bringing on Tom Denton for Donald Chimalilo in an effort to regain attacking momentum.

In the 87th minute, Hebburn made a final attacking switch, bringing on England U-18s player Gildo Da Silva in place of Joao Gomes, in the hope of finding a winner.

However, despite both sides best efforts, neither side could find a a winning goal, as the two teams settled for a point a piece.
