Durham Challenge Cup Semi-Finals

J Denham Metals Stadium

The Hornets take on Shildon AFC on Tuesday night, fighting for a place in the finals of the Durham Challenge Cup.

Following an enormous 6-1 win against Easington Colliery in the quarter-finals, the Hornets we’re drawn against the Railwaymen away, with the winner set to play either Whickham FC or Hartlepool FC First in the final.

Shildon made the semi-finals after dominating West Auckland Town to prevail 4-0, and set up the tie with the Hornets.

Hebburn currently sit in 6th position within the Northern Premier Division and will be favourites going into the game, but the Railwaymen sit in 1st place within Division 1 of the Northern League and will provide a stern test for the Hornets.

The last time the two sides met was back in 2023, with the Hornets prevailing 2-1 winners over the Railwaymen, after an own goal from Aidan Heywood and a goal for Amar Purewal, cancelled out Billy Greulich-Smith’s opener.

Looking at their head-to-head history, both sides sit on 2 wins each, both amassing 4 goals per team, proving Tuesday night will surely be a tough game.

Speaking ahead of the game, assistant manager Mark Hudson said, “It’s going to be a tough game. Going back to Shildon, we’ve got a job to do, everyone will be wanting to play, but we have to look after one or two of them due to playing both Wednesday and Saturday”.

He added, “It’ll be a good opportunity for players to come in and get us to the finals”.

The match will be played at the J Denham Metals Stadium, DL4 1EZ. Tickets prices are: Adults: £7, Concessions: £5. You can only pay by cash on the gate.
