Hebburn Town vs Sunderland AFC XI
Thursday 1st August, 7:30pm kick off
Hebburn Sports Ground
Pre-season Friendly
The Lowdown
In a fixture only announced earlier this week, the Hornets get the opportunity for more minutes in the legs ahead of the new campaign as they challenge a Sunderland XI on home soil.
Having suffered four consecutive defeats at the start of pre-season, Hebburn have not conceded in the last two, having beaten Bishop Auckland 2-0 and followed that up with a goalless draw against Heaton Stannington.
With several Reserve team players now registered for first team action and new signings such as Callum Dobson and Leo Robinson on board, Daniel Moore now has more options at his disposal and will look to manage his squad with them facing their final two pre-season games in less than 48 hours.
The Young Black Cats were beaten 3-0 by Hartlepool United after returning from a tour of Italy. Senior players Jay Matete, Hemir and Jewison Bennette featured in that game for Graeme Murty's side.
Pre-Match Thoughts
Hebburn Manager Daniel Moore commented ahead of the game, "tomorrow will be a brilliant test for us. I believe Sunderland are bringing a number of first team players, so it will be another good step in our preparation for the league season, which is just around the corner."
Moore continued, "You can train as much as you like, but cannot replicate game situations and it will be a good workout without the ball and then it's about us being brave with the ball. It gives us an opportunity on Thursday and Saturday to now field two different teams so that lads get those last few minutes to get them in the best shape possible for August 10th."
