Hebburn Town vs Ossett United

Tuesday 23rd April, 7.45pm kick-off

The Lowdown

Hebburn continued their long winning run on Saturday with a 4-0 victory over Belper Town. They took the lead early on when a towering Matty Elsdon header rebounded off the post with Mason Frizelle then turning the ball into his own net.

Two expert finishes from Dean Briggs put the Hornets in command by half time and after a relatively quiet second period Olly Martin added to the scoreline late in the game.

Hebburn remain a point clear of Stockton Town with a game in hand. Daniel Moore's side are now guaranteed the highest league finish in the club's 112-year history, but they will be looking to secure one final victory that would see them promoted as champions.

Ossett United meanwhile won 2-1 on the road at Bridlington Town with goals from Adam Watson and Adam Priestley either side of a Glen Sani equaliser proving enough for the three points. Andrew Norfolk was sent off for the home side late in the game.
Ossett are now in 17th place but need one more win to mathematically secure their safety.

Head-to-Head

The reverse fixture this campaign produced an eight goal thriller in which the points were shared. Dean Briggs, Robbie Spence and Amar Purewal had Hebburn three up by the half hour mark, but a remarkable turnaround was to follow.

Janni Lipka reduced the arrears on the stroke of half time and Corey Gregory grabbed a second soon after the restart. With four minutes to play, Gregory converted a penalty and on 89, Rafa Ferreira completed the comeback to put Sheepicorns in front.

There was still time for one final twist however, as Gregory put through his own net in stoppage time.

Last season at Ingfield, Liam Murray's goal early in the second half was enough to bring the three points back to South Tyneside With around 20 minutes to play, the home side were reduced to nine men when Joe Stacey and Ollie Fearon both received red cards.

It was a point apiece in the reverse fixture, with Purewal putting Hebburn into the lead from the spot, before Danny South quickly equalised. Murray was sent off for Hebburn just before the break, but there were no further goals in the second period.

Pre-Match Thoughts

Hebburn Assistant Manager Mark Hudson's message to supporters ahead of this game was "come and follow us."
