Mark McLeod is 'raring to go' after agreeing a one-year deal on South Tyneside.

The former Darlington player becomes the second signing of the week, following Tom Devitt's arrival at The Green Energy Sports Ground.

The central midfielder believes Hebburn was the perfect fit, stating: "It's brilliant to be here, the club looks fantastic.

"The lads look quality and seem very nice - the togetherness really shows.

"I moved back to the North East a few months ago and I've been on the lookout for a club.

"I'm delighted to have got the chance at Hebburn - I can't wait for the season to start."

Hailing from Sunderland, McLeod links up with the squad from fellow step four side, Uxbridge.

The 34-year-old feels his defensive ability will help The Hornets this campaign, adding: "I'm a defensive midfielder.

"My style is simple: keeping the ball, battling for headers and winning tackles in the middle.

"I'm not too fussed about the attacking side of the game, as long I can help prevent opposition goals as much as possible.

"I've played in the Football League and Carling Cup, and I've been in non-league since I was 21.

"I like to talk and organise, so hopefully I can use my experience where needed this season."

Kevin Bolam's outfit travel to West Auckland Town on Saturday, with the JR Cleator Cup up for grabs.

"I'm looking forward to it," said McLeod, who appeared in the four previous friendlies on trial.

"I'm interested in seeing what teams up here are like as I've been playing in London for quite a while.

"I don't know what to expect but we're going to turn up, enjoy it, and get some more minutes in the tank.

"I want to play for as long as I can, so pre-seasons are vital to get prepared correctly."
