Hebburn Town too a huge step towards the club's highest ever league finish in their 112-year history on Saturday afternoon, after they swept aside play-off chasing Belper Town at the sportsy with ease thanks to goals from Matthew Elsdon, Dean Briggs and Olly Martin.
Before kick-off, a minutes silence was held in memory of lifelong fan Bob Tatum, who sadly passed away last week. May he rest in peace and our thoughts and condolences go out to his family.
Daniel Moore named an unchanged side from Thursday's win over Ashington and rightly so after their dominant display.
The Hornets made a strong start in the opening two minutes after a cross into the box was straight on to the head of Elsdon, but he couldn't direct his header in the corner as the ball went inches past the post and out for a goal kick.
However, Hebburn found themselves ahead in the 10th minute courtesy of an own goal! Liam Noble swung in a perfectly timed cross to find Elsdon, who's header cannoned off the post and deflected off Belper's Mason Frizelle who headed into his own net.
Five minutes later, some good passing in the middle of the park from the Hornets as Martin flicked the ball towards Amar Purewal who tried to find Briggs making a surging run, but it was blocked by the Belper defender.
Chances from the hosts kept on coming as Aiden Heywood's floated ball towards goal was just out of the reach of Purewal and Belper Town goalkeeper Daniel Moore collected the ball in his arms.
Briggs went close to adding a second goal after cutting inside onto his right foot, but his effort sailed just wide of the top right corner.
The visitors first chance of real note came in the 30th minute. Keiran Walker's long-throw into the box caused a scramble and as the ball fell to Frizelle, he could only volley his effort over the crossbar.
Hebburn found their much deserved second goal in the 33rd minute as Briggs received the ball on the left-flank, before he cut inside onto his right foot and his shot snuck in the near post, leaving Moore rooted to the spot!
Only a few minutes later, Purewal nearly added a third for the home side! His close-range header was saved well by Moore's outstretched leg as he did well to get back after anticipating the ball going in his near post again.
The Hornets found that all important third goal in the 37th minute and Briggs scored his second of the game! Once again, the winger cut inside and his scuffed shot went beyond Moore and into the bottom right corner of the goal.
The dominance continued as the clock edged closer to half-time and Briggs almost completed his hat-trick! Purewal set him up for a strike that ended up over the crossbar, which didn't trouble Moore.
The hosts were forced into a change before the break as Heywood couldn't continue after struggling for most of the half, as he was replaced by Tom Devitt.
A chance in stoppage time arose for Belper as another long throw-in from Walker caused disruption for the Hebburn defence as Frizelle headed just wide. The referee then blew his whistle to bring an end to an action-packed first-half.
Hebburn manager Moore then opted for a second change during the break as Leo Robinson entered the pitch in place of Noble.
The first yellow card of the game was given to Belper's Declan Dunn after a strong challenge on Briggs. Briggs took the resulting free-kick, but the referee blew his whistle after Phil Watt went down in the penalty area due to a suspected head injury. He was then substituted and replaced by Zak Goodson.
Great play once again from the home side as Briggs unlocked the afterburners and accelerated down the left-wing, before swinging in a low cross towards Martin, but his shot went wide of the near post.
On the hour mark, Briggs was replaced by Liam Murray after a resilient performance in what was Hebburn's final change of the afternoon.
In the 65th miunte, the visitors created their first real opportunity of the second half as Lewis Austin's volley sailed well over Kieran Hunter's crossbar.
Belper then made their second substitution as Brodie Litchfield replaced Dunn.
A minute later, Murray found himself in acres of space and drove towards the Belper goal, but after beating the defender, he couldn't get his feet sorted quick enough as the ball went over Moore's crossbar.
The visitors third change came in the 74th minute as Toby Gregory came on to replace James Oliver.
As the clocked edged closer to the final ten minutes, the Hornets went in search of a fourth goal to put the cherry on the cake of a dominant afternoon.
Martin went head to head with a Belper defender on the wing who tried to nudge him, but he shrugged off the challenge and unleased a low powerdul effort that forced Moore into yet another save.
Seven minutes remained and the Hebburn defence had to stay switched on to keep their clean sheet in-tact.
A scramble occured in the Hornet's penalty area after another long throw-in by Walker, but Jack Donaghy made a last-ditch block to deny Belper a consolation goal.
In the 86th minute, Purewal found himself one-on-one with the Nailer's keeper Moore, but he was denied yet again.
If it wasn't for multiple saves from the Belper shotstopper, the scoreline would've been a lot more damaging for the away side.
Hebburn finally scored their fourth goal in stoppage time as Martin was finally successful after a host of attempts! Moore got a hand on Martin's shot, but it wasn't enough to prevent him from finding the bottom corner.
A great day for the Hornets as they made it eleven wins in a row and have taken an impressive twelve points from a challenging seven days, that would've undoubtedly weighed heavy on the players and the coaching staff.
The lads will clinch the Northern Premier East Division title on Tuesday night if they can get past Ossett United at the Sportsy under the lights.
